This deal is so hot it's... cold?
This is a perfect example of how combining a lot of the tactics that I've written about in my previous posts can save you lots of money. For simplicity sake, I have left off sales tax in the below example, so your actual cost and savings may vary slightly due to state sales taxes.
Take a look at this Samsung French Door Refrigerator that is on sale at The Home Depot:
At first glance, this looks like a pretty impressive deal to begin with, right? With a regular price of $1,799 and a sale price of $998, that's an almost 45% discount already.
Now here's where the magic happens.
The first step comes from what was learned in my post on discounted gift cards.
Currently, Cardpool is selling Home Depot cards for 8% off face value. Buying $998 of gift cards would cost you $918, saving you $80. (Don't forget to account for any sales tax too when you buy your gift cards, since you can pay the tax at Home Depot with gift cards as well!)
To make it even easier, Cardpool has a handy "Bulk Purchase" feature which will automatically find gift cards up to a certain value for you.
The "Bulk Purchase" feature works like this:
First, find this banner on the web site.
Once you click the Bulk Purchase button, it will open a window that looks like this:
Nice and easy!
Before you click the order button at Cardpool, don't forget about using a cash back portal! Both TopCashBack and BeFrugal are currently offering 4% cash back at Cardpool. That amounts to an additional $36.72 back on a $918 purchase from Cardpool.
Once you have your gift cards, go to the Home Depot web site to buy your refrigerator Once again, however, don't forget to click through a cash back portal! Both TopCashBack and BeFrugal are paying 6% back on purchases from Home Depot. On a $998 purchase, that is an additional $59.88 back.
Time for some math. A $1,799 refrigerator, on sale for $998. Paid for with gift cards that you bought for $918. Then you get a total of $96.60 in cash back from the cash back portal. That means your net cost was only $821.40!
These same strategies can work on many other purchases and at many other retailers as well. By paying attention to the gift card resellers and cash back portals, you can save a lot of money!
Disclosure: Some sites pay a commission for referral. I will always post the best deal/offer that I know of, regardless of if it pays a referral or not. If you choose to sign up through my links for those sites, it is greatly appreciated!
